If you are looking for the perfect summertime shawl pattern, then this is the perfect shawl for you! This beautiful stitching detail paired with a lightweight yarn produces this elegant crochet wrap that is the perfect project to work on in warmer weather.

This rectangular shawl crochet pattern is made with an open stitch pattern called the ‘Picot Trellis‘ stitch. Don’t let this stitch intimidate you as it is easier to crochet than you might think. It is made up of a simple 2 row repeat that uses basic crochet stitches like chain, single crochet and double crochet stitches.
This is a great project that is perfect to crochet in warmer weather if you love making shawls but don’t what a super thick or heavy project to work on. And it produces the perfect accessory that will be a great addition to your wardrobe!

I used a #3 light weight yarn for this rectangular shawl pattern called Yarn Bee ‘Bamboo-Tiful’ yarn. It is made out of 50% Cotton & 50% Viscose and is a super soft yarn and best yarn for this project. It worked up beautifully and produced this beautiful, lightweight shawl. I think this shawl is perfect worked up in a solid color of yarn but if you make one in different colors or even maybe with a special type of cake yarn or striping yarns, be sure to tag me on social media so I can see it!
I feel like any lightweight yarn will work great for this pattern. I also feel like yarn weight is very important for this project and I don’t recommend using a thicker or heavier weight of yarn or even worsted weight yarn as it won’t give the right kind of drape and look to this crochet rectangle wrap.

The fringe is completely optional to add to this finished project but for my personal preference, I love adding fringe to all my shawls. Whether they are triangle or rectangular shawls, I think the fringe adds so much to the finished piece and it is so easy to do.

Cut yarn and weave in ends.
My shawl was approx. 64’’ in length before adding the fringe.

To Make Fringe:
Wrap the yarn around the piece of cardboard and cut it across one end to make the pieces of fringe.
Add the fringe to the shawl:
I add 1 piece of fringe to every single crochet space across the bottom edge on each side
Take a piece of fringe and fold it in half. Then take your small sized crochet hook and insert it into the space where you want to add the fringe. Put the piece of yarn on the hook and pull it through the space a little.
Grab the 2 ends of the piece of fringe and pull them through the loop. Pull tight to secure.
Repeat on both ends of shawl
I steamed my fringe to help it lay flatter and then also trimmed it all even.
