If you are looking for a crochet shawl pattern that has a lot of texture, then you will definitely want to take a look at my Ridgeway shawl pattern!  After the second row it is made with just a one row repeat so it’s super simple to work up.

I used a number 3 lightweight / dk yarn for this beautiful shawl and it turned out perfect.  I used Yarn Bee Sugarwheel cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby and it works up so smoothly.  And the colors just flow perfectly on this shawl.

If you choose to use another #3 yarn for this shawl, I used approx. 1,000 yards of yarn.

I love the fact that this shawl is a 1 row repeat pattern.  That makes it super simple and easy pattern to make but don’t be fooled, the results are gorgeous!

For this boho crochet shawl, I choose to use the royal ridge stitch.  It is a stitch that has a lot of texture.  It is produced by half double crocheting in the 3rd loop.  If you have trouble finding or don’t know which loop is the 3rd loop on a half double crochet, then I highly recommend watching the video tutorial for the royal ridge stitch IN THIS POST!

*** From row 2 on, you will work in the 3rd loop of each hdc only ***

Row 2: ch 1, t, 2 hdc in 1st st, hdc in each st until you reach the ch 1 sp, ( 2 hdc, ch 1, 2 hdc) in ch 1 sp, hdc in each st until you reach last st, 2 hdc in last st

This is the 3rd loop of the hdc stitch

Always make sure when you start a row that you start in the very first stitch of the row and end in the very last st

Also make sure that you work into the very last hdc before the ch 1 space because it can almost look like a chain stitch

Continue repeating row 2 until shawl reaches desired size.  I used 3 skeins of the Sugarwheel cotton and my finished shawl came out to be approx. 58” wide and 32” long.

At first, it may not look much like the royal ridge stitch but after a few rows it will begin to look like mine.

Here’s what it looks like after row 3

It’s starting to have that look and will continue as the shawl grows.

Once shawl is the desired size cut yarn and weave in all loose ends.
