Disclaimer –
***I do want to add. For all this patten, please use at your own risk and contact your insurance provider if you have any questions. I will say that this is NOT meant to be used when driving, it’s meant to be used as a cover (to keep the steering wheel cool) when parked. If you use it when driving, use at your own risk***
About This Steering Wheel Cover Design
I decided to do something a little different that the traditional granny squares that you see stitched together to make a steering wheel cover. I wanted to include the granny stitch, but not have to attach all the squares together.
So, I decided on trying to do the Granny Stripe Stitch and it turned out perfect! The granny stitch is the easy way to add a colorful crochet piece to your car.
Everywhere you look all the latest trends seem to be granny square everything. Why not make your own steering wheel cover with a granny stitch design!
What Yarn to Use
I chose to use I Love This Yarn in White, Limelight, Turquoise, Tropical Pink, Amethyst and Yellow. Any worsted weight acrylic yarn works great for this project.
I also think that cotton yarn would be a great option for this quick project.
The best part is you can customize the colors of this pattern in so many different ways. You can make multiple ones for the different seasons of the time of year. Bright colors for the summer time and neutral tones for the fall time.
What Size Steering Wheel Does This Cover Fit?
The standard size for steering wheels is 15” in diameter.
Even if the diameter of your steering wheel is a little larger than 15”, I believe that this cover would still fit your steering wheel as it has a lot of stretch in it.
This one is a perfect fit for my 15” steering wheel without it being too tight and having to fight to get it on.
