The simple twist creates such a stylish headband.  I love making headbands with a twist design.  I feel that it adds so much to the pattern even though it is such a simple step.

This is the perfect crochet pattern that you can make in a very short amount of time and they even make for great last-minute gifts!

Details About This Twist Headband Pattern

I used a simple stitch pattern for this easy headband pattern called the ‘Royal Ridge’ stitch.  It is made from a single repeat row and works up beautifully with an unique texture.  It was absolutely the perfect stitch to use for this cozy headband.

The stitch is explained below but if you are wanting a more in depth written, picture and video tutorial for the Royal Ridge stitch then check it out IN THIS POST!

The type of yarn that I chose to use for headband is a chunky yarn from Hobby Lobby called Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek Chunky.  This was my first time using the chunky soft and sleek yarn and it worked up beautifully.  This is also a bulky-weight yarn and anti-pilling yarn and works up with a soft yet sturdy feel.

I have used the regular soft and sleek yarn which is a worsted weight yarn many times and it is a favorite yarn of mine from Hobby Lobby!

I also used a J or 6.00 mm hook for this project.  THESE are my favorite crochet hooks!

Overall, the headband has a very simple construction as it is made in a rectangle with simple stitches and then the edges are sewn together so it makes for a super easy and quick project that uses basic skills.

Can I use a different weight yarn?

While yes, you can use a different weight yarn for this pattern, just keep in mind that it will change the size of the headband depending on what weight of yarn you choose to use.  Like using a thinner yarn will make a smaller headband but you can easily make your foundation row longer by adding more stitches to adjust the size.

These chunky twist headbands make for such stylish accessories and are absolutely the ideal accessory for the colder months.  I think they would even be cute with your hair in a high ponytail.

*Remember that if you start with chain stitches that the bottom edge of your piece will not be very stretchy that is why I highly recommend doing the foundation stitches

Cut yarn leaving a long yarn tail to sew the ends together

How to sew the edges together and make a twist:
