Want to put a twist on the traditional granny square? Then you will want to try this granny rectangle crochet pattern. The rectangle granny is so fun and easy to crochet, I know that you will be hooked on it!
If you are looking for a tutorial for the traditional granny square, you can check out THIS POST for that.
If you have crocheted granny squares before or any form of the granny stitch, then I think that you will find the granny rectangle very easy to do. The only thing you will probably need help with is knowing how to do the first couple of rounds to get it started, after that you will be flying with this stitch.
Is the Granny Rectangle Easy to Crochet?
Yes, the granny rectangle is a very easy stitch to crochet. If you are familiar with crocheting regular granny squares, then you will already know the basic form for this stitch.
It uses basic crochet stitches like the chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet stitches. If you can crochet those 3 simple stitches, then you can easily crochet the granny rectangle stitch.
You can work this stitch for as many rounds as you would like to make a giant granny rectangle blanket. Normally with the traditional method of making granny squares, you can only make a square blanket unless you want to make lots of individual squares and join them all together in a rectangle shape, but know you can easily make a rectangle shape granny blanket with this easy stitch!
What Yarn Am I Using?
I am using Brava Worsted yarn from We Crochet. It has become one of my favorite worsted weight, acrylic yarns that I enjoy using here lately. I’m using just a bunch of different and bright colors for this sample and the names of the colors from the center one out are rouge, cornflower, alfalfa, cotton candy and freesia.
I have included the written tutorial, along with some pictures and a full video tutorial for this stitch (just in case you are a visual learner!) If you enjoy my video tutorials, please be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my Youtube Channel! Thank you so much for your support!

Just an FYI….on row 1 you said to ch 18 and then sc in 3rd ch and ea ch afterwards, but I believe you meant to say ch 20 to begin.
