Do you like the look of granny squares but don’t like having to attach 50 or more of them together to get a finished blanket? Then I think that you will love the Granny Stripe Crochet Stitch!

This is such a fun stitch! You can use up any scrap yarn to make a cute scrap Granny Stripe blanket! That would be so cute!

It works up super quick and is basically just a 2 row repeat. If you can chain, single crochet and double crochet, then you can do this stitch!

The Yarn –

I’ve been posting pictures of this blanket on my Instagram and everyone has been loving this color combination! And, I myself, am quite in love with it!

Which, I will say, happened by complete accident. I had a bunch of skeins of Brava Worsted Weight yarn laid out on my desk and I had been making color charts for my temperature blanket posts (which you can find HERE). I was at a complete loss on what to make and had started multiple projects to only frog and rip them out because I wasn’t happy with any of them.

I had seen this stitch and decided that I would take some of the skeins on my table and make a Granny Stripe Blanket with them! I just started grabbing colors not really paying too much attention to them and after about 4 or so colors, I saw this theme and fell in love with it! I decided to only do these 6 colors and not all the 20 different colors I had on my desk.

Here are the names of the 6 Colors of Brava Worsted Weight Yarn that I’m using for this blanket –

  • Paprika
  • Brindle
  • Coral
  • Tidepool
  • Silver
  • Persimmon

Those are the colors that I’m using, in that order. Just one row per color. I’m thinking about just trimming the ends off evenly on the edges and leaving them for fringe as opposed to weaving in 1,001 ends later, so I’m leaving the tails a little longer than normal.

Of course, I only bought 1 skein of each color. So, I had to order more yarn for it, but that’s never a problem!

I’m also using a I / 5.50mm Crochet Hook. I chained 167 at the beginning and my blanket measures approx. 67” wide.

Row 1: sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch st across

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as a stitch here and throughout the rest of pattern), t, dc in same st, * sk 2 st, 3 dc in next st* repeat * to * until last 3 st, sk 2 st, 2 dc in very last st

Row 3: ch 3, t, 2 dc in gap, * 3 dc in each gap space * repeat * to * until last gap space, 2 dc in last gap space, dc in very last st (chain 3 from previous row)

Row 4: ch 3, t, dc in same st, * 3 dc in gap* repeat * to * in each gap sp across, 2 dc in very last st (chain 3 from previous row)

Repeat rows 3 & 4 for however many rows you like.

You can change colors every row or do a few rows before changing colors. It’s totally up to you!

  1. Please tell me the number of skeins needed for this project. I’m going to bake it and use your colors too! Thx

    1. I’m not sure how many skeins it will take to complete my blanket, as it’s still an ongoing project that I’m still currently working on. I will be making a post with all the details after I finish it though!
