The Puff Stitch is a great stitch to add to your library of stitches! I love this stitch for hats, headbands and even fingerless gloves! This is a headband pattern that I made last winter

Everyone seemed to really like this headband, you can find that pattern HERE

I also recently came across and done a tutorial for a similar stitch called the Puff Edge Border Stitch! It looks like this –

Let’s learn how to crochet the Puff Stitch!

Stitch Key –

  • ch = chain
  • st = stitch (es)
  • sc = single crochet
  • ps = puff stitch
  • yo = yarn over

One great thing about the puff stitch is that it looks the exact same on both the front side and the back side

To start chain any odd number of stitches (for a test swatch I’d start with 21)

In the 2nd ch from the hook sc and work a sc in each ch st across

To start the row with puff stitch –

ch 1, skip the next st

puff stitch = *yarn over and insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop (as if you were going to do a double crochet), you now have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and insert hook into the same stitch and pull up another loop (5 loops on hook) repeat from * 2 more times until you have 9 loops on your hook, yarn over and pull through all 9 loops. Secure with a chain stitch.

to continue down the row, *skip a stitch and ps in the next st* repeat * to * across

To continue on to the next row of puff stitch, ch 1, turn your work and work a puff stitch in every ch space across the row.
