Whenever I post a picture or video of me working on this waffle stitch baby blanket, I always get asked multiple times “What stitch is that?” or “Is there a pattern?” I’m glad to say that I have finally written the pattern up with all the details on how I made this pretty blanket!

Along with questions about the pattern, I also get asked quite often about what yarn I used. And, I don’t blame anyone for asking because this yarn and the colors are absolutely gorgeous!

The Yarn

For this waffle stitch baby blanket, I used Lion Brand Mandala Baby Yarn in the color Narnia. Pair that with this textured stitch and it creates an absolutely beautiful blanket.

Lion Brand Mandala Baby Yarn is a number 3 lightweight yarn. It takes a little bit longer to work up in this stitch as opposed to using a worsted weight yarn but I think it showcases the texture of this stitch so well. It makes it worth the little bit of extra time.

The Stitch

I used a stitch that has a lot of texture called the ‘waffle stitch in a square’. This stitch is fun as you work from the middle of the blanket out as opposed to in rows like the traditional waffle stitch.

If you are more of a visual learner and would like to see a video tutorial for the waffle stitch in a square, you can watch that below.  Keep on scrolling for the full written pattern for the waffle stitch baby blanket.

Since this stitch stands out so much on it’s own, I just finished the blanket off with a simple single crochet border.

You could easily make this blanket bigger by simply keeping on and adding more rows until the blanket is your desired size. I used 2 skeins for this blanket and it came out to be a 26” x 26” blanket. Perfect size for a baby!
