I love crocheting baby blankets and this ripple stitch crochet baby blanket pattern is no exception!  I chose to use 3 different colors or yarn for this specific blanket and I love how it turned out!

This easy ripple stitch blanket uses basic stitches like double crochets for the majority of the pattern.

I chose to use one of my favorite worsted weight yarns that comes in a variety of different colors, I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby.  You could choose any combination of colors that you want for this baby blanket pattern.

I chose to use 3 different colors named tropical pink, keylime and white for this specific blanket pattern.  You could even use as many different colours as you would like, it’s so easy to change the look of this blanket just by switching out the colors.

If you want to do your yarn shopping online for yarn for this easy pattern, then I would suggest maybe using another worsted weight yarn that I love called Brava worsted from We Crochet.  It’s is an acrylic yarn that comes in a variety of colors and is very similar in feel and weight of I Love This Yarn.

About the Ripple Stitch

The ripple stitch is a fairly easy stitch to crochet.  After the foundation row, the ripple stitch pattern is just made up of a 1 row repeat.  This stitch can also be called the double crochet ripple stitch.

It is a stitch that I’m sure confident beginners could even crochet.  The ripple stitch is made up of basic crochet stitches like chain stitches and double crochet stitches.

Since it is such an easy and simple stitch, doing color changes is what really makes the ripple design stand out.  Once you get the hang of the ripple pattern, you will be wanting to make all your blankets with this stitch!

I have a full written and video tutorial for the ripple stitch that you can find IN THIS POST!

Can I Make a Different Size of Blanket With This Pattern?

Yes, this crochet blanket can be made in any size you would like by simply adjusting the starting chain and number of rows that you crochet.  It’s really easy to adjust the size of this simple crochet stitch to make either a smaller blanket or larger blanket.

To adjust the size of your crochet ripple blanket, you will need to make a starting chain that is a multiple of 12 + 3.  So, that simply means that you will need to chain any number that is divisible by 12 and add 3 to it (example starting chain of 87, 111, 135 st).

Is the Ripple Stitch the Same as the Chevron Stitch?

No, the ripple stitch and the chevron stitch are 2 different stitches.  Although they may appear like they are the same stitch, they are not.  I will also say that there are different variations of both of these stitches.

The visible difference between the ripple stitch and the chevron stitch is that the ripple stitch has softer looking waves while the chevron stitch produces more pointed and defined points.

Both stitches make for a beautiful blanket especially when you use multiple yarn colors and change them every few rows, this helps the design to really stand out.

You can adjust the size of this blanket by making the starting chain any number that is a multiple of 12 + 3 (example starting chain of 87, 111, 135 st)

You will change colors after every 2 rows following this color pattern

  • Tropical Pink
  • Keylime
  • White
  • Repeat

Pattern

Chain 111 stitches

Row 1: dc in 4th chain from hook (the 3 chain st that we just skipped will count as a st) dc in 3 ch st, (dc2tog) twice, * dc in 3 st, 2 dc in next 2 ch st, dc in 3 ch st, (dc2tog) twice* repeat * to * until you reach the last 4 st, dc in 3 st, 2 dc in very last st

Here’s a small example of what the 1st row should look like

Small example of the 1st row of the ripple stitch

Row 2: ch 3 (counts as a st), t, dc in 1st st, dc in 3 st, (dc2tog) twice, * dc in 3 st, 2 dc in next 2 st, dc in 3 st, (dc2tog) twice* repeat * to * until you reach the last 4 st, dc in 3 st, 2 dc in very last st

*NOTE – remember that the ch 3 from the previous row counts as a stitch. So, your very last 2 stitches will be worked into it.

Here’s what it will look like after row 2

Small example of the 2nd row of the ripple stitch

Repeat row 2 until you have completed 62 rows or blanket is desired length

*NOTE – I cut my yarn after every 2 rows.  Yes, this makes for more ends to weave in, but to me it makes for a better blanket than trying to carry the yarn up the sides and covering them up with a border.  I chose to not add a border anyway.

Change colors after every 2 rows.  You will end with the last 2 rows being in tropical pink.

Cut yarn and weave in all ends.
