Easy Waffle Stitch Washcloth Free Crochet Pattern

Looking for a washcloth pattern that has a lot of texture to it? Then you will want to check out this Waffle Stitch Washcloth Crochet Pattern because it is the perfect washcloth if you are wanting one made with a stitch that has a nice texture.

This free pattern is made with a stitch called the Waffle Stitch in a Square and it truly looks exactly like its name and looks just like a waffle!

I used I Love This Cotton yarn which is a 100% cotton yarn for these washcloths. You always want to make sure that you use a 100% cotton yarn when you make washcloths or dishcloths of any kind as this type of yarn will hold up longest and absorbs water unlike acrylic yarn.

I love picking out 3 coordinating colors and making a matching set of washcloths. You could even pair a set with some fun, homemade soaps for a thoughtful gift idea.

Things you will need:

• I Love This Cotton in Turquoise, Paris in June & Curry
• H / 5.0mm Crochet Hook
• Yarn Needle / Tapestry Needle
• Scissors
• Tape Measure (optional)
• Stitch Markers (optional)

Finished Measurements – Approx. 8” x 8”

Stitch Key 

• ch = chain
• st = stitch (es)
• sk = skip
• sl st = slip stitch
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• dc = double crochet
• fpdc = front post double crochet
• blsc = back loop single crochet
• sp = space
• yo = yarn over
• t = turn

Pattern

Round 1 (right side): in mc, ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout) dc, ch 1, * 2 dc, ch 1* repeat * to * 2 more times, pull ring closed, sl st into top of 1st st (ch 3)

You should have 8 dc & 4 ch 1 corners

Round 2 (wrong side): t, sl st into corner, ch 4 (counts as dc & ch 1 here and throughout) dc in corner, fpdc next 2 st, * (dc, ch 1, dc) in corner, fpdc next 2 stitches* repeat * to * 2 more times, sl st into 3rd st of ch 4

You should have 16 dc & 4 ch 1 corners

Round 3 (right side): t, ch 3, fpdc, dc in 2 st, fpdc, * (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner, fpdc, dc in 2 st, fpdc* repeat 8 to * until you reach last corner, (2 dc, ch 1, dc) in last corner, sl st into top of ch 3

You should have 32 dc & 4 ch 1 corners

Round 4 (wrong side): t, sl st into corner, ch 4, dc in corner, fpdc next 2 st, * dc, fpdc next 2 st* repeat * to * until you reach corner [ (dc, ch 1, dc) in corner, fpdc next 2 st, * dc, fpdc next 2 st* repeat * to * until you reach corner ] repeat [ to ] around, sl st into 3rd ch of ch 4

You should have 40 dc & 4 ch 1 corners

Round 5 (right side): sl st into corner, t, ch 3, [ fpdc, * dc in 2 st, fpdc* repeat * to * until you reach corner, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in corner ] repeat [ to ] until you reach very last corner, (2 dc, ch 1, dc) in last corner, sl st into top of ch 3

You should have 56 dc & 4 ch 1 corners

Round 6 – 9: repeats round 4 & 5

Round 10: ch 1, do NOT turn, blsc in each st around and placing 2 blsc in each corner, st st into 1st st

Cut yarn and weave in all ends.
