The Moss Stitch has to be at least one of, if not my favorite stitch! And, this Moss Stitch in a Rectangle is no exception. This is such a mindless and easy stitch to do. You will love it!

You start from the middle and work outwards. It makes a great stitch to use for blankets.

Other Types of Moss Stitch

Did you know that there are at least 3 other ways to crochet the moss stitch? There is and here they are –

All of which, I love every one! Have you tried them all? If so, which one is your favorite?

The Yarn –

Since I know that this will be a big question that everyone will want to know and I don’t blame any of you at all. The colors of this yarn are absolutely so fun!!! They are vibrant and bright, I’m sure they will brighten anyones mood.

It is Lion Brand Mandala Ombre in the color (guess, this one, lol) HAPPY. I think that’s the perfect name for this color!

This is the 2nd time using this specific yarn, with the 1st time being my Denim Shawl. That pattern also uses the Moss Stitch and you should check that one out too! I absolutely love this yarn! The stitch definition is wonderful and it works up perfect! Definitely one of my 1st go to yarns!

Round 1: ch 28, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, * sk st, sc in next st, ch 1* repeat * to * until the last ch st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in very last ch st, ch 1, turn to work down other side of ch st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in 1st st, *ch 1, sk st, sc* repeat * to * until last ch st, (sc, ch 2, sc) in very last ch st, ch 1

Round 2: Work into space where you sk 3 ch of the 1st row, (sc, ch 2, sc) in that sp, ch 1, [* sk st, sc in ch sp, ch 1* repeat * to * until you reach next corner (ch 2 sp), (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, ch 1, repeat from [ around

Simply keep repeating from [ from the previous round until the blanket is as large as you would like. You can place a stitch marker into the very 1st corner to help keep track of the 1st corner of each row. When the blanket is as large as you’d like, simply sl st into the 1st corner to end. You can really sl st into any corner because once your blanket gets larger, you won’t be able to tell which corner is the beginning, so it won’t matter.

  1. I have some Mandala Ombré (love it). How many balls of it do you think it would take to do your Rectangle Moss Stitch in a lapghan? I’m debating about whether to do your rectangle pattern or do your C2C moss stitch, just making it longer for a lapghan.
Love your patterns too – made your denim shawl and it’s great!
    Thanks

    1. I would think 3 skeins would make a great size for a lapghan! That’s the hardest part, deciding which stitch to use 😂
Aw, thank you! I’m so glad that you like them!
