One of my favorite types of yarn is Cake Yarns! I love how there are multiple colors of yarn in 1 roll, so that means less ends to weave in on your projects. And, you want to know what I love to make with cake yarns? Baby Loveys! It only takes one cake to make this whole Baby Bear Lovey!

Baby loveys are one of my favorite things to make. They are cute, easy and simple to make. Plus, they make adorable baby shower gifts.

About the Lovey-

I used one of Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee Sugarwheels in the color Gimme Cobbler for this baby bear lovey. This is what my cake looked like –

I pulled from the middle and made my bear head, ears and the arms first. Then I made the lovey. I still had some yarn left over to spare.

I also used the C2C Moss Stitch to make the lovey. The Moss stitch has to be one of my favorite stitches. I also have a complete tutorial for this stitch HERE

Here’s what my lovey looked like before I attached the bear –

I also want to note that I prefer using black yarn to embroider my eyes and mouth as opposed to using safety eyes. If this is going to be fore an older child, safety eyes will work perfectly. But, if a small baby is going to have this lovey, I’d definitely recommend using yarn for the eyes. That way when they are gnawing all over the bear, you won’t have to have any worries about something coming loose.

Things you will need:

Finished Measurements – Lovey is approx. 16” x 16”

Notes –

  • I like to use some scrap black yarn to embroider the eyes and mouth. You can use safety eyes, but I like to be safe and just use yarn. I do have a video on how I embroidered the face, find it HERE
  • The lovey is made using the C2C Moss Stitch, if you want a in depth tutorial, find that HERE
  • I used the Crab Stitch border, also known as the Reverse Single Crochet. Find that tutorial HERE

Lovey – With 6.00mm hook

Row 2: ch 3, t, sk sc, sc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, ( sc, ch 1, sc) in ch 3 sp from previous row

Row 4 – 40: repeat row 3

Row 41: ch3, t, * sk sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, ch1; repeat from * to last sc. sc twice in ch-3 of previous row.

Row 42: ch2, t, skip 2 sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, * ch 1, sk sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * to last sc. sc in ch-3 of previous row (don’t ch1 before sc)

Row 43: ch2, t, skip 2 sc, sc in next ch-1 sp. * ch 1, sk sc, sc in next ch-1 sp, repeat from * to last sc. sc in ch-2 of previous row (don’t ch1 before sc)

Repeat row 43 until you only have 2 stitches left.

ch1, t, sc in ch-2 of previous row.

For the border, I used the Crab stitch border, which is also known as the Reverse Single Crochet.

Chain 1, and evenly work a reverse single crochet all the way around the edge, slip stitch into the beginning.

Cut yarn and weave in all ends.

To attach the bear, I sew the arms on first and leave about a 1” gap between the arms.

Then, I sew on the head.
