2 crochet pumpkins close up

Everyone needs some cute crochet pumpkins for fall decor and this is the perfect free pumpkin pattern!  This is an easy crochet pumpkin pattern as it uses basic stitches for the stitch pattern used for these handmade pumpkins.

I would love to see these pumpkins made in all the different fall colors or even some white pumpkins would be cute!

The body of the pumpkins are simply made from a rectangle and should I mention that it is just made with a stitch that is a one row repeat?!  Talk about a super easy pattern!

I used a fun stitch called the “Grit Stitch” for these pumpkins.  This stitch is made with basic crochet stitches like the single crochet stitch and the double crochet stitch, so it’s a super easy stitch to do.

Best Yarn For Crochet Pumpkins

While you can use many different yarns for making pumpkins, one of the best yarns that you will probably find to make them with is just a basic, worsted weight yarn.  Any worsted weight yarn will work with this pattern, but I chose to use Vanna’s Choice yarn.

Although you could easily switch out this yarn for a chunky yarn or bulky weight yarn with a corresponding hook and make even larger pumpkins.

One thing that I see a lot of people do that you can do with these pumpkins is instead of crocheting the stem, use a piece of a cinnamon stick and hot glue it to the top of the pumpkin.  It makes for a neat pumpkin stem that also will smell nice.

Now, take a long tail and go through the very middle of the pumpkin and go all the way through from the top of your pumpkin to the bottom of your pumpkin. Gently pull yarn and go back through the pumpkin, I went through mine 6 times to create the ridges on the pumpkin.  After this your pumpkin will finally have it’s pumpkin shape.
