Are you wanting to crochet a blanket that has a lot of texture? Then you will definitely want to look at this waffle stitch crochet afghan pattern!
This blanket pattern is made with the waffle stitch and it has so much texture and squish to it. Plus, this stitch makes for a super warm and non-holey type of crochet blanket.
It is a super easy pattern as it only involves a 2 row repeat for the entire blanket making is so easy, but still giving it a wonderful texture. Other than that you just change colors every few rows.
The Yarn
I used Lion Brand Pound of Love Yarn for this blanket pattern. They are just like the name and the skeins are 1 pound each and are really big.
Since the stitch that I used for this blanket is a yarn eater, I knew that I would need a lot of yarn and these 1 pound skeins were perfect for it.
I used the colors Pumpkin Spice and Sugar Cookie for this blanket and they coordinate perfectly. You could use just one color and make a solid color blanket or even use a few different colors and make a colorful striped blanket, there are so many options!
The Stitch I Used
I used a fun stitch called the waffle crochet stitch. It uses a stitch combination like double crochet stitches and front post double crochet stitches to create this awesome texture.
If you have never crocheted the waffle stitch pattern and would like to watch a video tutorial, you can check out THIS POST for an in depth and step by step tutorial.
This waffle stitch crochet pattern is a great stitch if you are wanting something with a lot of texture and squish factor to it.
How to Make Different Sizes of Blankets
You can easily make any size of blanket that you would like with this stitch by simply adjusting the starting chain. My blanket is approx. 45” x 60” and is the perfect throw size blanket.
This crochet waffle stitch blanket can be made by chaining any multiple of 3 plus 2 for the turning chain. I started mine with a foundation chain of 182.
You can easily subtract chain stitches and rows to make a smaller waffle blanket or add chain stitches and more rows to make larger sizes of this waffle stitch blanket.
Border or No Border?
I chose to do no border for this blanket because I think that this blanket looks perfectly fine without one. With the amazing texture of this blanket, I didn’t feel like it needed a border to make it feel finished.
If you wanted, you could easily add a simple border of single crochet. It is completely up to you on how you want to finish this easy project.
