Whether you are an experienced crocheter or an absolute beginner, this free crochet dishcloth pattern is perfect for you! It uses some basic stitches and a 100% cotton yarn. Scroll down for the free pattern!
Making dishcloths is a great way to use up some cotton yarn scraps that you may have. They are also a very useful thing to make that you will use time and time again.
This dishcloth pattern is made with a special stitch called the ‘Lemon Peel‘ Stitch. This is an easy stitch to crochet and it uses basic crochet stitches like chain stitches, single crochet stitches and double crochet stitches. The lemon peel stitch produces such a great texture too.
This stitch pattern is a 1 row repeat row after the 1st foundation row.
What’s the Best Yarn to Use for Crochet Dishcloths?
Hands down, a 100% cotton yarn is always going to be you best choice when it comes to selecting a yarn for making crochet dishcloths. Cotton yarn is super durable and holds up very well even after being washed time and time again. Acrylic yarn is not a good choice for making dishcloths with as it isn’t a natural fiber and doesn’t absorb water and melts easily when exposed to high temperatures.
Some of My Favorite Cotton Yarns
One of my top favorite cotton yarns that I use all the time and that I love is Dishie from We Crochet. There are a lot of different color options for this yarn in both solid and multi color choices.
I love picking a multi colored skein and then a few solid colors that coordinate well and making a set of crochet washcloths. When made this way they also make for great gifts!
This free crochet washcloth pattern makes for an easy project that even crochet beginners can make with easy. If you can chain stitch, single crochet and double crochet then you can make these washcloths.
I finished this pattern off with a single crochet border, but you can leave that off if you would like to. You can also adjust the size of this dishcloth easily by just chaining any odd number of chain stitches to begin.
Here some of other cotton yarns that I really like:
- Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton Yarn
- Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton
- Hobby Lobby’s Crafter’s Secret Cotton
