What is cuter than teeny, tiny baby hats?  Teeny, tiny baby BEAR hats!  A baby bear beanie would be the cutest little photo prop for a newborn’s first picture.

I almost can’t stand the little ears, they are just too cute! And, the best thing? This is a free crochet pattern!

an array of different colors of my crocheted baby bear hats laid out.

I wrote my Baby Bear Hat pattern in 5 different sizes.  Preemie, Newborn, O-3 Months, 3-6 Months and 6-12 Months.  This hat would go great paired with my Newborn Baby Booties and make such adorable baby shower gifts!

I’ve been making and selling these baby bear hats all year long and finally decided it was time to tweak the pattern and share it with y’all!

How Hard are Crochet Baby Hats to Make?

This pattern is very easy to crochet! I’d say that this is a very beginner friendly pattern.

If you know how to do a few basic stitches like the single and half double crochet, then you can make this cute hat!

When I first started crocheting, some of my favorite things to make were baby items. That included crochet hats and headbands for babies. I soon fell in love with crocheting baby blankets too.

Most baby hats are made with basic crochet stitches, this makes them easy to learn and it also makes for a quick project that you can quickly finish and feel accomplished.

Plus, I think that a crochet bear hat may just be one of the cutest items to ever make!

What Yarn is Best for These Baby Bear Beanies?

I chose to use I Love This Yarn from Hobby Lobby, but any similar worsted weight yarn would work just fine. I love how soft that the I Love This Yarn is, it’s perfect for babies!

Every time I make one, I love to use a different color of yarn to see what it will look like. The colors that I have made so far are all I Love This Yarn in the colors

  • Pink
  • Soft Blue
  • Blossmopolis
  • Mango
  • Brown
  • Amethyst
  • Keylime

Use brown yarn and you will have a little brown bear hat. Make one in an off white or cream color and you have a polar bear hat! And, don’t forget about the black bear.
