If there is one thing that you can say about these crochet pot holders, it would be TEXTURE! Not only is this a round crochet potholder pattern, it has a very modern look and finish.

These make for a great project that you will use time and time again in the kitchen. Scroll on down for the free crochet pattern.

3 Round crochet potholders laid next to a stove top.

Traditional hot pads tend to be square in shape, but I thought that it would be a neat change to make some round ones. When I got the idea to create a round potholder, I immediately thought about adding bobble stitches. They make this a really fun pattern and add so much to it.

If you are looking for a square & easy crochet potholder pattern, then go check out my double thick Potholder pattern. It is made using a special stitch that is super thick called the thermal stitch. It creates a super dense fabric that works great at making a thick hot pad.

About the Design of the Modern Round Potholder

When I wanted to design a round potholder, I knew I wanted to give it a different look. After I made these potholders, I went and looked up round crochet pot holder patterns and I couldn’t find anything like mine. There were different designs, but I feel like mine are pretty unique with the texture I gave them using the bobble stitch.

Because you use potholders to handle hot dishes, you want a pretty thick potholder, so this potholder is made up of 2 layers. I decided that 1 layer wasn’t going to be thick enough. I made a front piece that has the bobbles and then crochet the back piece and slip stitch them together to make a double-thick potholder.

I think the bobbles really add to these potholders and take them an extra step farther than a normal square potholder.

If you have a general understanding of crochet terms and stitches, I think that even a beginner, maybe more of a late beginner crocheter could make this round crochet potholder pattern.

A beautiful crochet potholder or even a set of them would make for a great gift for someone. They’d especially make for a great housewarming gift. It’s nice to receive handmade gifts and handmade potholders would be useful for someone who enjoys cooking. They could think about you every time they use them.

What Yarn should you use to Make Potholders?

The answer is cotton yarn! 100% cotton is probably best because other yarns such as acrylic yarn, melts when something hot touches it. Since you use potholders to mess with hot pots and hot pans, you don’t want something that melts. So, cotton yarn works best when it comes to handling hot dishes!

Another great thing about using cotton yarn to make these round potholders is that they are machine washable. If you get them dirty just toss them in the washer and they will be as good as new.

Some of my favorite cotton yarns are

This is a great way to use up some of your yarn stash that you may have laying around and make something that would be useful for your own home.

You could leave the hanger off of them if you don’t want to hang them. I think that they’d be really cute hanging in a kitchen though! You could make different colors to match any kitchen decor. I especially like crocheting them in solid colours so the bobble stitches really pop!

Are these Modern Round Potholders Hard to Crochet?

No, they are super easy and simple to whip up! This is the perfect pattern that you can crochet a set of that won’t take hours upon hours to finish.

  1. Do you have a matching pattern of this for a hot pad? I would love to make this a little bigger for a pot to sit on but I’m new to crocheting and don’t know how that works!

    1. Hi, This is the only pattern that I have for this particular pot holder. A pot could sit on it, just not a very large one.
