Y’all, I’m so excited to be releasing another sweater pattern! This isn’t just any sweater pattern, this is my ‘Pretty in Peplum’ Sweater. It’s a velvety, squishy, flattering, comfy, you’ll want to make one in every color sweater.

Behind the Design

I originally designed this sweater just for me. I wasn’t going to write the pattern up or anything, it was going to be a project just for me without all the added math and sizing. But, as I went along, I made sure I wrote everything down and took notes, in case I wanted to make me another one just like it.

Pretty in Peplum Sweater WIP

Well, turns out that it was a good thing that I wrote it all down. I posted a picture of it in a Facebook group and everyone went crazy over it! I couldn’t believe that so many people would want to make a sweater like mine!

So, I done all the math and brain work for this pretty little thing and I’m so glad that it’s finally time for everyone to be able to make their own!

This is my 2nd sweater pattern to publish, with my first being my Easy Peasy Raglan Sweater

One concept that I love with this sweater is, that I can totally pull it off everyday with a pair of jeggings and some ballet flats. But, I can dress it up and look really classy with a black pencil skirt and some black boots.

This is one of my beautiful testers! Love it!!! View her Instagram profile HERE

The Yarn that I used

For this particular garment, I wanted to use Lion Brand’s Vel-Luxe yarn. And, oh my goodness! It’s works up beautifully and makes the softest and squishiest sweater ever!

Vel-Luxe Yarn

My only problem that I had with this yarn was….. I couldn’t decide which color I wanted to use. I was tore between the Eggplant (which is what I decided on) and the Emerald.

But, who knows, later on I may wind up making me another sweater in the emerald!

I really like this yarn. It was great to work up and it didn’t split or shed any.

About the Design

So, the Pretty in Peplum design is pretty basic. It is worked from the neck down in one piece.  Later, attaching the yarn at the arm holes and crocheting them right onto the sweater, so NO SEAMING!

I have written the pattern in 7 sizes XS – 3X. Below there will be a sizing chart.

Things you will need:

  • Lion Brand Vel-Luxe (I used Eggplant) XS- 3 skeins, S- 3 skeins, M- 4 skeins, L- 4 skeins, XL- 4 skeins, 2X- 5 skeins, 3X- 5 skeins
  • Size H – 5.00mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Notes:

  1. With the way this pattern is designed, it is written and is easier to understand with each size written completely out instead of one pattern working all the sizes together.
  2. Worked top down
  3. Sleeves are crocheted right onto the sweater.
  4. Model is 5’, wearing a size M, with a 38’’ bust.
  5. You could easily lengthen the sleeves or the sweater by simply adding more rows where I stop.
  6. Final stitch count is given at the end of each round in ( )
  7. When you attach your yarn to work on the sleeves, you can attach the yarn pretty much anywhere around the arm hole.  Great thing about this velvet yarn is that you can’t see where your rounds join
  8. I will include other notes throughout the pattern when needed.
  9. Be sure to use obtain a correct gauge.

The side with (64) stitches is the front of the sweater.  I made more stitches toward the front to give room for the bust and allow for the shape of the sweater.

  1. Thanks for this new sweater pattern, an making it free for us who can’t afford to pay for every pattern we love. I wondered if you missed putting in the abbreviations the ” fsc,” I’m assuming its foundation single crochet, but only used it once a long time ago so need a refresher course how to do again, an new crocheters might not know the abbreviation or how to do it either? Also wondering if you have a measurement of bottom around hip area, that’s where I have bigger hips than rest of body, so always need bigger, although I’ll make longer to help cover area, but wondered how wide it is it hip area? Thanks again for cute sweater pattern 💜🌹💜

    1. Hi, Yes, the fsc means foundation single crochet. I’ll go check that out. I don’t have the measurements for the hip area, but you could easily keep increasing around the bottom where I stop if you just keep following the same order that I’m doing! Hope this helps! Thank you!

  2. I am on row 23 right now and I don’t know how to go through the chain stitches do you have any way to help me.

    1. You will just work through them like a regular stitch. Go through the top 2 loops. Make sure to count and make sure you don’t add any extra stitches

      1. Do you go through them after the 28 stitches and how would you go through the round like sc 28 then sc chain? Thank you.

    1. No, the skipped 28 stitches are for the armholes and you’ll come back and attach the yarn and work the armhole later. On row 23 your just working through the chain stitches and not the skipped 28 stitches

  3. I am really excited to try out this pattern, however I’m not a huge fan of the velvet (call me crazy, I’m sure I’m the only one…) Is there an alternate yarn you might recommend? Thanks!

    1. If you could get the correct gauge, another yarn would probably work. But, I’m not sure. I created this pattern specifically for the velvet yarn. 🙂
