What says Summer more than a watermelon slice?! Ok, maybe watermelon and pineapples!

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love Summer! All the bright colors, the long days, Pools, Beaches…..I could just go on. Living in Oklahoma, we get our fair share of heat too.

But, back to the pattern, Who needs to crochet them a watermelon slice???

Things you will need:

  • 6’’ x 2’’ piece of cardboard (optional)
  • Hot Glue Gun (optional)
  • Stitch Marker
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviation:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • Sc2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together
  • T = turn
  • Sk = skip
  • st = stitch (es)
  • Sl st = slip stitch

Notes:

  • Watermelon Measures approx. 8’’ tall
  • I hot glued a piece of cardboard to the inside on the green to help keep the bottom flat

With jelly bean

Round 1: ch 23, sc in 2nd st from hook and in each st across, 3 sc in last st, turn to work down the other side, sc in each st (45)

Round 2: 2 sc in 1st st, sc in 20 st, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, sc in 20 st, 3 sc in last st (50)

Round 3: sc, 3 sc, sc in 21 st, 3 sc, sc in 2 st, 3 sc, sc in 21 st, 3 sc, sc (58)

Round 4: sc in 2 st, 3 sc, sc in 23 st, 3 sc, sc in 4 st, 3 sc, sc in 23, 3 sc, sc in 2 st (66)

Round 5: sc in 3 st, 3 sc, sc in 25 st, 3 sc, sc in 6 st, 3 sc, sc in 25 st, 3 sc, sc in 3 st (78)

Round 6 – 8: sc in each st around (78)

Round 9: sc2tog, sc in 14 st, * sc2tog, sc* repeat * to * 2 more times, sc in 11 st, (sc2tog) 2 times, sc in 12 st, * sc2tog, sc* repeat * to * 2 more times, sc in 11 st, sc2tog (64)

Round 10: sc in each st around (64)

Round 11: sc2tog, sc in 5 st, * sc2tog, sc* repeat * to * 1 more time, sc 10 st, * sc2tog, sc* repeat 1 more time, sc in 3 st, sc2tog, sc in 4 st, * sc2tog, sc* repeat 1 more time, sc in 10 st, * sc2tog, sc* repeat 1 more time, sc 4 st (54)

Change to white

Round 12 – 13: sc in each st around (54)

Glue piece of cardboard on the inside bottom of the piece

Change to red

Round 14 – 17: sc in each st around (54)

Round 18: * sc in 7 st, sc2tog* repeat * to * around (48)

Round 19 – 22: sc in each st around (48)

Round 23: * sc in 6 st, sc2tog* repeat * to * around (42)

Round 24 – 27: sc in each st around (42)

I take the black yarn and start embroidering the seeds before I start to stuff my watermelon

Round 28:  * sc in 5 st, sc2otg* repeat * to * around (36)

Round 29 – 31: sc in each st around (36)

Round 32: * sc in 4 st, sc2tog* repeat * to * around (30)

Start stuffing with Poly-fil

Round 33: sc in each st around (30)

Round 34: * sc in 3 st, sc2tog* repeat * to * around (24)

Round 35 – 36: sc in each st around (24)

Round 37: * sc in 2 st, sc2tog* repeat * to * around (18)

Round 38: sc in each st around (18)

Round 39: * sc in 1 st, sc2tog* repeat * to * around (12)

Finish embroidering the seeds and stuffing.

Round 40: sc2tog around (6)

Sew the top shut and weave in ends.
